Crackled Sugar Cookies
Time: 45 mins
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup butter
- 1/2 cup shortening
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon cream of tartar
- 1/8 teaspoon salt
- 3 egg yolks
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
- 2 cups flour
Directions
- 1 In large bowl, beat butter and shortening on high for 30 seconds.
- 2 Add sugar, baking soda, cream of tartar and salt and beat until combined.
- 3 Beat in egg yolks and vanilla until combined.
- 4 Mix in flour until well combined.
- 5 Shape into 1 inch balls and place 2 inches apart on ungreased cookie sheets.
- 6 Bake at 300 degrees for about 20 minutes or until tops are just slightly crackled and sides are set.
- 7 Do not let edges brown -- if they do they are over done and will not be tender.
- 8 Transfer to wire rack to cool.
- 9 May freeze up to 3 months.
