Mazurek Topped With Apple

Ingredients

  • 2 cups flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 3 tablespoons heavy cream
  • 2 egg yolks

Directions

  • 1 Mazurek base:.
  • 2 Sift together all dry ingredients by pulsing in food processor.
  • 3 Add chilled butter into flour pulse until crumbly.
  • 4 Add beaten yolks with cream and add to flour mixture, just till it comes together when squeezed with fingers, but still will be crumbly.
  • 5 Press dough into pan.
  • 6 Lay on buttered 8 inch square cake pan, pressing in to evenly cover the base.
  • 7 Chill for 5 minutes.
  • 8 Bake for 20 minutes in a preheated 350 degree oven.
  • 9 Mix apples and Southern Comfort together.
  • 10 Remove base from oven and cover with apple topping.
  • 11 Bake 20 minutes longer.
  • 12 Cool dust with powdered sugar or top with a sugar icing and garnish with sliced toasted almonds.
  • 13 Cut into 16 finger size servings.
